Chers confrères, le 12 juin 2023 sera le 200ème anniversaire de naissance de notre Fondateur, le Père Théophile Verbist. Avec gratitude et joie pour la fidélité de Dieu, commençons la célébration de ce bicentenaire qui se déroulera du 28 novembre 2021, fête de notre Congrégation, au 28 novembre 2023 et, plus important encore, imitons l'enthousiasme missionnaire de nos prédécesseurs. C'est le plus beau cadeau que nous puissions offrir à notre Fondateur Théophile Verbist à l'occasion du bicentenaire de sa naissance. Profitons de cette occasion pour nous plonger dans les sources de notre charisme, y réfléchissant, l'embrassant et l'incarnant dans tout ce que nous faisons aujourd'hui et demain. Prenons encore le ferme engagement d’imiter celui qui a quitté le confort de sa Belgique natale pour œuvrer en faveur des enfants pauvres et abandonnés, en vue de leur bonheur dans ce monde.
De même, le bicentenaire de la naissance de notre Fondateur est une raison de rendre grâce à Dieu. Nous remercions Dieu pour la vie de Théophile Verbist, son ardeur missionnaire et son charisme. Nous rendons grâce pour la fondation de notre Congrégation. Ce bicentenaire offre un temps de grâce pour les plus de 750 membres vivants qui composent cette grande famille religieuse. Pour nous tous, ce bicentenaire ne doit pas être seulement un moment de célébration. C'est une occasion précieuse qui nous est offerte pour regarder en arrière avec gratitude, regarder le présent avec confiance, et travailler pour l'avenir de notre mission avec l'énergie et la nouveauté de l'Évangile. Nous allons le faire en vivant la mission qui nous est confiée avec une vigueur et une conviction renouvelée – même au milieu d'événements parfois troublants comme la pandémie de covid-19 – au nom des abandonnés, des orphelins, des jeunes, et surtout des plus nécessiteux.

Dear confreres, June 12, 2023, is the 200th birth anniversary of our Founder, Father Théophile Verbist. Let us enter our Bicentennial celebration, which will run from November 28, 2021, Feast of our Congregation, until November 28, 2023, with gratitude and joy for God’s faithfulness. More importantly, let us emulate the missionary enthusiasm of our predecessors. It is the most beautiful gift we can give to our Founder Théophile Verbist on the Bicentennial of his birth. Let us take this Bicentennial opportunity to immerse ourselves in the sources of our charism so that we may reflect upon, embrace, and embody it in all that we do today and tomorrow. Let us firmly recommit to imitating him who left the comfort of his native Belgium to work in favor of the poor abandoned children and their happiness in this world.
Likewise, the Bicentennial of the Birth of Théophile Verbist is a reason to give thanks to God. We thank God for his life, his missionary ardor, and his charism. We give thanks for the foundation of our Congregation. This Bicentennial affords us a time of Grace for the more than 750 living members who make up this great religious family. For all of us, this Bicentennial aims at being not just a time of celebration. It is a valuable opportunity offered us to look back with gratitude, to look at the present with confidence, and to work for the future of our mission with the energy and novelty of the Gospel, living the mission entrusted to us with renewed vigor and conviction on behalf of the abandoned, the orphans, the youth, and especially those most in need, even amid sometimes unsettling happenings like the current pandemic.

O God o infinite godness and mercy,
fill our hearts with a great confidence in Thy Most Holy Mother,
whom we invoke under the title
of the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
and grants us by her most powerful intercession

Born in 1823 in Antwerp (Belgium). First vows in 1864. Ordained Priest in 1847. Founder of CICM in 1862. Sent to China (Mongolia) in 1865. Apostolic Provicar of Inner Mongolia in 1865. Died on February 23, 1868 in Lao-Hu-Kou (China) at the age of 44.
